The following text describes an application from a customer of DRUCK, a leading global provider of products and services in the field of power grid infrastructure. The company offers a wide range of gas-insulated substations (GIS) for industry worldwide.
Substations are used to transport electrical energy safely via the grid to end consumers. They transform the voltage between high and low voltage and secure and distribute the flow of electricity. Due to its excellent insulating properties, sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) is often used in GIS components such as instrument transformers. As SF6 is an extremely powerful greenhouse gas, precise and early leakage detection in GIS systems is essential.
DRUCK's customer required a measuring device for monitoring gas pressure and temperature in order to detect changes in density and thus identify possible gas leaks. In addition, high measurement accuracy was required to ensure fast and reliable leak detection.pressure measuring device for leak detection.
They chose the DPI 705E portable pressure and temperature measuring device, which combines a robust design with precise and reliable measurements. The measuring device responds quickly and achieves an accuracy of 0.1 % FS in the temperature range from -10 °C to +50 °C. This allows the customer to continuously monitor pressure and temperature to detect changes in density and identify leaks at an early stage.
The DPI 705E also has an integrated leak test. By recording pressure changes over time, it is possible to determine whether there is a leak in the connected system. Leak tests can also be carried out with resistive temperature detectors (RTD interface) to record temperature changes over a certain period of time.
